Project description:

The St-Colomban Library project is part of an architectural approach that highlights the fluidity of forms and the softness of organic lines. The concept is based on the integration of ubiquitous curves, visible both in the treatment of the walls and in the design of the furniture, creating a welcoming, contemporary environment accessible to all users.

The interior design prioritizes spatial continuity, where transitions occur naturally, without visual disruption. The rounded walls, built-in booths, and curved furniture contribute to this goal of creating a fluid space that promotes circulation, comfort, and a sense of belonging. This approach also helps establish a soothing atmosphere conducive to reading, working, and social interaction.

In this context, the mandate was to produce all technical drawings for the custom-made furniture, a particular challenge due to the complexity of the curved forms. Each element required heightened precision in modeling and representation to ensure clear understanding for manufacturing and installation.

The design work encompassed a variety of furniture types, including a kitchen, a bistro area, a coworking counter, built-in planters, booths, offices, a reception desk, shelving units, and vanities. The entire project was designed with formal coherence in mind, ensuring that each piece aligns with the project’s overall architectural language.

The deliverables included the complete production of plans, elevations, and sectional views, which are essential for custom fabrication. The drafting work faithfully translated the conceptual intentions into feasible technical solutions, while meeting the project’s functional and aesthetic requirements.

This project highlights the importance of detail and precision in the development of complex furniture, where mastery of curves becomes a true design tool in the service of the user experience.
